I am a CKD patient. Ever since retirement in April 24 as the CEO of Breach Candy Hospital I have been going to Dr. Bharat Shah Director and Head of the Department of Nephrology at Gleneagles hospit al Parel which is closer to my residence for my continued treatment. To say the least Dr. Shah is not only an excellent Nephrologist but also an epitome of compassion. He goes out of his way to help his patients to heal & recover. He has an excellent team, which includes senior nephrologist Dr. Prashant Rajput and is complimented by a very capable and experienced renal dietitian Dr.Zamurrud Patel. All of them have been taking good care of me and I can't express my gratitude in words. Recently I went to San Francisco in the United States of America and there I I was experiencing elevated blood pressure and at odd hours from a different time zone I used to call Dr. Shah who entertained my calls without any hesitation. On my return to Mumbai Dr Bharat Shah advised me to have AV Fistula done as a precautionary measure. He himself talked to Dr. Swarup Pal, the Cardiovascular, Thoracic and transplant surgeon attached to Gleneagles Hospital. Dr. Pal immediately (after examining me) fixed the procedure. I was a bit apprehensive and scared of getting this procedure done. However, both the doctors comforted me to get it done only as a precautionary measure. He told me to get admitted to the hospital the very morning of the procedure day and said he will discharge me next day. Further, I can start my routines from the third day without any hindrance. Dr Pal is equally an amazing surgeon. Dr. Pal performed the procedure in a very smooth way by giving me only local anesthesia. Dr. Swaroop Pal was ably assisted by a good team which includes Yethu Krishna . Though the procedure took over an hour I never felt any pain or discomfort. Both Dr. Shah and Dr. Pal jointly visited me post procedure in my room and gave the best care. I got discharged the next day of my procedure and the day after that I started visiting my office as also played my table tennis. For any CKD patient who is advised to get AV fistula done please do not postpone or hesitate as this is a simple procedure but very useful at the right time.

We were going through an anxious and emotional time as we found ourselves in a complex situation--especially with his kidney transplant due very soon--but Dr. Pal's skill and compassion truly made all the difference. My father needed a heart bypass surgery and Dr. Swarup pal operated on his surgery. He is very good at his work he diagnosed him and treated him perfectly. Surgery was a super success. Pre and post follow-up were taken and good attention was given to my father by doctor. He personally took care about well-being of my father and i am greatly obliged to him for his excellent support.

After my husband experienced some chest pain and breathlessness, we consulted a cardiologist who advised us on taking a stress test. The stress test results required further investigation and hence we approached Dr.Adwait Patil for further clarification. After going through all the reports Dr.Patil advised us to get an Angiography. Since the reports were showing positive symptoms of blockage, on 6th February 2025 we were admitted where Dr.Patil also was consultant doctor. The Angiograph showed coronary artery disease with significant double vessel disease. Angioplasty was attempted, however due to severe calcification, this could not be carried out. With the age factor and surgery was not our preferred option, Rotablation Angioplasty was decided to be carried out the following day, where the calcification would be broken down, balloon inserted and then the stent would be placed. This procedure was carried out under local anesthetist and my husband was conscious through out, observing the procedure. However, despite trying for 1-1.5 hour, placing a stent with this procedure also could not go ahead. The aim was to place stents without surgery however due to multiple blockages, there was no other option but a bypss surgery CABG. We were then introduced to the heart surgeon Dr Swarup Pal who would be carrying out the surgery. Since my husband was on blood thinners, the surgery was scheduled 4 days later on 10th February after consultation with Dr Patil and Dr Pal. Dr Pal with his team including the Anesthesiologist Dr Shah, took a detailed a medical history including any issues which may seemed insignificant to us. They very patiently explained the procedure including the pros and cons to all of us. All this while my husband was continuously monitored by the cardiac team. Unfortunately, there was some fluctuation in the EKG overnight and the surgery had to be preponed to 8th February. Due to the age, EKG fluctuations and blood thinners, the risk factors now slightly increased which, Dr Pal again meticulously and patiently explained to us before the surgery. We appreciate that Dr was upfront about everything. Dr Pal's positive and calm approach helped us a lot and my faith was more than my fear. We were told that in the OT, my husband's heart was pumping at 25% and he was on the high risk category. It was a difficult surgery which took 6+ hours. Finally, it was such a relief to hear that despite complications, the surgery went well. After the surgery, my husband was brought to the ICU and was put on ventilator for a short period. We got to meet him once he was conscious, Additional blood was given for another day. In the ICU, Dr Patil, Dr Pal and his team and the ICU team were continuously monitoring the progress. Physio and breathing exercises began the very next day after surgery. After stabilizing for 5 days in the ICU, my husband was brought to his room, where the Dr Pal's team and Dr Patil made multiple visits to monitor his condition and progress. On the 14th of February, we got a discharge. Regular routine follow-ups showed my husband was on his way to recovery. Our sincere thanks to Dr.Adwait Patil who throughout our hospital stay, gave us assurance, guided us at every step and monitored his post-surgery conditions. We will always be grateful to him. Once again we are grateful to Dr. Swarup Pal and his wonderful team of doctors, the Anaesthesiologist, the Pulmonologist, the Physiotherapist and the entire team of doctors, nurses, OT and ICU staff who assisted him during surgery and post-surgery. A 76 year old heart was given to Dr.Swarup Pal to restore and he did a wonderful job on it and gave a fully mended heart.
