    Ashok Raja Pudota

I'd like to share my dad's story related to invasive aspergillus Fungus(Black Fungus), which started exactly 14 months ago. It all began when he started experiencing pain around his left eye. We immediately rushed him to an eye hospital, where they examined him and said everything looked fine. But the pain continued to worsen, especially around his left eye and face. We then admitted him to another hospital. They conducted a CT scan and diagnosed him with Giant Cell Arteritis. He was treated with a high dose of steroids for a week. Unfortunately, the pain didn't improve -- in fact, it spread up to his head. Suspecting something more serious, we shifted him to another hospital(Uday Hospitals, Guntur). The doctors there reviewed the CT scan and said there was something unusual in his face, possibly sinus-related, but they couldn't confirm what kind. They were also shocked that the previous hospital had given strong steroids without confirming the diagnosis, especially since my father is diabetic. The next day, the ENT doctors performed sinus surgery. They sent a sample for culture, and the lab report confirmed it was invasive aspergillus fungus. The doctor told us that it might have started as a regular sinus infection but the steroid use allowed the fungus to grow aggressively. He was immediately started on voriconazole (2 tablets per day), along with sinus cleaning every 10 days. After 15 days, since he was feeling a bit better, we decided to go for a second opinion at Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad -- as recommended by neighbors. There, doctors said the situation was extremely critical and urgent surgery was needed to stop the fungus from spreading to the brain. They performed major surgery, removing his left upper jawbone, which left a large hole in the upper palate. After one week, my father was discharged, but he was unable to eat or drink due to the extent of the surgery. A week later, at the follow-up, another MRI scan showed that the fungus had already spread close to the brain. The doctors said surgery was no longer an option. They started an aggressive 42-day antifungal treatment: 6 injections of Amphotericin B and 2 injections of Isavuconazole every day -- costing us about 60,000 per day. During this time, he suffered from constant vomiting (up to 5 times daily), no bowel movements, and had to undergo frequent liver and kidney tests. After the 42-day treatment, they did another MRI but told us the infection was still not cleared. They mentioned they'd call a specialist from Dubai for further help. At that point, we took all the reports and returned to the first doctor (Uday Hospitals, Dr Rama Krishna garu)who had done the sinus surgery. He was upset that we had taken our dad elsewhere, explaining that surgery could actually help the fungus spread faster to other parts of the body. We admitted it was our mistake. After a week, we took our dad back to that doctor again. He restarted the voriconazole tablets and advised a strong nutritional diet. All this happened over the span of about 11 months. Now, my dad is doing much better, and the infection seems under control. But he still struggles to eat and drink properly due to the missing jawbone and the hole in his upper palate. Looking back, we feel bad that we rushed into the second surgery. If we had waited and trusted the original doctor, things might have been easier. But we were scared, desperate, and just wanted to save him.

Worst hospital I have ever seen in my life, they not even give any basic treatment for emergency patients, they just need scaning and reports only money minded. Because of scanning, reports they wasted time and we lost a life. Staff also very rude. My request is not go to this hospital instead you can go to govt hospital for emergency situations.
