Doctors are good, but we need to wait long even if our token is next to visit doctor. Their management is not good at maintaining patients. Also premises are not much better.

Patient Reviews
I am extremely dissatisfied with the service provided by the receptionist and PRO staff at this hospital. Their behavior was rude and unprofessional, lacking customer-friendly etiquette. Furthermore, the room allocated to my wife, who was admitted with high fever, was unhygienic and poorly equipped. Despite numerous requests for a separate room, we were initially denied. Later, we were given a small room without basic amenities like hot water, a clean washroom, and a bed for the attendant. The PRO and receptionist promised to provide a better room in the new building, but it was allocated to another patient who had a lower priority on the waiting list. When questioned, their responses were unjustifiable and reflected their partial and unsupportive attitude. The lack of facilities for attendants, including my elderly mother, added to our distress. The behavior of these staff members will undoubtedly tarnish the hospital's reputation.
I was admitted to Varkala Mission Hospital with high-grade fever, expecting proper care -- but instead, I experienced poor facilities, careless staff, and clear medical negligence. From the beginning, everything was handled poorly. I was first admitted to the general ward, and the HR team told us to wait until the next day for a room, saying that no rooms were available at the time of admission. However, later that night, I was suddenly shifted to a room in the old building and told that I would be moved to the new building when a room became available. When I finally got the room, it was in terrible condition -- unclean, no hot water, and no food was provided. For someone with high fever, these are basic things that should never be missing. My waiting number was 11, yet I saw patients with higher numbers being given rooms before me. They told us repeatedly that "no rooms were available", but at night, rooms were quietly allotted to others. This showed a clear lack of fairness and honesty in how patients were treated. The night nursing care was completely irresponsible. One of the most shocking parts of my experience was that their thermometer wasn't working properly. During the night, I was shivering badly with fever, and when the nurse checked my temperature, she told my mother it was "normal" -- without giving any proper explanation. A few hours later, I developed severe body pain and extreme weakness -- I could neither sit, sleep, nor walk properly. We again requested the nurse to check my temperature. This time, it showed 98.7degF, which again seemed inaccurate. Only after a delay did they finally give me a paracetamol IV injection. To make matters worse, some of the nursing staff were very rude and insensitive in their behavior. Instead of providing comfort or clear communication, they often responded harshly or ignored our concerns completely. It felt like patients and their families were being treated as a burden, which is the last thing anyone needs when already unwell. This kind of negligence and unprofessional behavior is absolutely unacceptable. Their lack of urgency, poor monitoring, faulty equipment, and negative attitude put my health at further risk and turned an already difficult situation into a terrible one. I strongly advise others to avoid Varkala Mission Hospital unless they take serious steps to improve their staff training, patient care standards, and basic facilities.
A Shameful Mockery of Medical Ethics - Avoid This Hospital Unless You Have No Other Choice 21 April 2025 - At 1 a.m., I walked into Sivagiri Sree Narayana Medical Mission Hospital for a simple, humane request: one antibiotic tablet to ease my partner's relentless sneezing. The young male doctor on emergency duty refused, hiding behind policy and ego. No assessment, no questions, no alternatives--just a cold, smug "bring the patient or leave." At 1 a.m. That's not medical discretion. That's wilful negligence dressed up as protocol. A total absence of empathy, common sense, or basic human decency. This wasn't a demand for morphine. It was one tablet. Let's be honest--nobody dies from one antibiotic tablet, but many suffer from arrogant, lazy doctors who treat their duty like a burden and their patients like problems. It's not just bureaucratic insensitivity. It's a complete failure of judgment and humanity. And this isn't a one-off. I've endured apathetic, borderline hostile care in the Orthopedic and ENT departments here before. This hospital consistently behaves like it's doing you a favor by existing. The pattern is clear: a rigid, soulless system that hides behind protocol instead of serving people. Ask around Varkala, and you'll hear the same stories. Locals endure this hospital only when there's no other option. The Government Taluk Hospital, ironically, shows more professionalism and care. Yes, the public hospital. Cheaper, kinder, and actually functional. You'll get more dignity, empathy, and sensible care and you won't be financially punished either. Now here's the real tragedy: This place bears the name of Narayana Guru, a visionary who stood for compassion, dignity, and social upliftment. This institution has drifted from the compassionate vision of Narayana Guru, whose name now sits awkwardly atop a crumbling legacy of apathy and arrogance. A farce. You can't blame the Guru. But you can--and should--hold accountable the incompetent, self-important staff and the administrators who've gutted his legacy for personal gain. Avoid this hospital. Avoid this rot. The rot isn't just in the system--it's in the people choosing to uphold it this way.
Good since no other options in the locality. Paid some amount more than billed, and after getting bill, asked for the refund. And then comes easiest method to refund!!!!! New nursing bill to cover the difference!!!!!
This is one of all facilities multi speciality hospital available in Varkala area. Almost all medical departments are available here. There is no other options in Varkala region that's why people heavily depending on this hospital.Comparing to other hospitals in this region , this is the best one. Nursing staffs need to have proper professional training and accountability for their service. Unfortunately very bad back to back issues in last few days.
Doctors are very good..But nursing care is pathetic..Some experienced nurses are good and mature in their approach to caring patients .Among youngsters most lack professionalism and dedication. The bystsnder needs to remind and demand care .Else nothing happens well.Other services like billing, maintenance etc require an overhaul. Basic facilities like access to clean drinking water from water dispenser in each floor ,hot water in patient's bathroom, rails on bedside etc are lacking. But when the bill comes, you are in for a surprise..It will be equivalent to a superspeciality hospital bill.My father sought treatment for fever and cough and was admitted there for 9 days.On the day of discharge, even the discharge summary was not typed and ready to be handed over to the patient's bystander. That speaks volumes regarding the staff's commitment.
Hospital that is run by the shivagiri trust is in very poor condition. My 1 year old daughter is admitted due to cough and cold. We are not insured , so had to pay 1500 rupees per day for the room. The pathetic condition of the bed and the unhygienic dirt on the curtains will make us more sick. The hospital has handful of well experienced doctors,i think that is one of the main reasons patients rush in. And to mention there are very few multi speciality hospitals in the locality. Condition of the room, the paint ,the curtain ,the worn out bed makes us never return to this hospital The paedatric ward - the one that is supposed to be the cleanest is also in its worse form - with bad smell and worn out facility. The hospital needs to be renewed at the earliest.
