    National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, commonly known as NICVD, is Bangladesh's premier government-run cardiac hospital and teaching institution established in 1978 . Situated in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, it offers comprehensive cardiac care--from outpatient consultations to complex tertiary procedures and emergency services . NICVD boasts a 400-bed capacity and treats around 300 outpatients daily. Its clinical services include adult and pediatric cardiology, cardiovascular surgery, intensive care (CCU, ICU, PICU), and state-of-the-art facilities like catheterization laboratories and diagnostic units . Postgraduate training began in 1982/1988, offering MD (Cardiology), MS (Cardiothoracic Surgery), and Diploma in Cardiology. To date, 166 MDs, 99 MSs, and 178 diploma holders have graduated, with all cadres working nationwide and beyond . The hospital also trains nurses and technologists for CCU, ICU, cath lab, and OT services . A milestone achievement occurred on 28 January 2024, when NICVD became the first institution in Bangladesh to perform a remote robotic stent placement surgery under Prof. Pradip Kumar Karmakar .
